Welcome to Zest of Home!!

I am so excited to be starting this blog and cataloging my creative journey that I have been on. I have been encouraged by so many to lean into my creative talents.

I have been told to share it all with the world and have always hesitated to do it because what I do is for me and for my soul. IT’s not out there to be judged or criticized. I have always been a crafter, imaginator, learner, dreamer and lover of nature. Even growing up I always felt a little different because I wanted to be at home sewing, crafting or cooking. I enjoy exploring new skills and learning how to use them. I also enjoy preserving traditions and crafts of older generations. I enjoy learning the process of what people make and understanding the craft that creates a quality that is unfounded.

It took me a long time to get here. To be comfortable with not fitting the mold of what a wife, mom, and woman role looks like in “suburban life” in MN. But I love striping away the pressures of judgement and realizing that I am who I am. There are major life events that happen to each of us that shifts our axis and our perspectives. For me it was having my daughter and going through a semi-traumatic natural birth with her. Follow that by losing my dad in a really horrific way. Both situations caused me to pause and have a moment with myself and really rethink what I was doing and how I wanted to show-up for myself. I believe that my dad has been a guiding light for me. He has given me the strength to pivot and nurture/engage the most stunning aspects of myself. I am not here on this earth to simply compensate for my weaknesses or to level myself out in every possible direction. I am here to grow the parts of me that were destined to come fully into form. I have overcome every single thing that has been unexpected and heart-wrenching and not gone my way. I have found the willingness to stay soft in a world that continues to try and harden me. I have found the ability to absorb my own emotions and channel them into productive crafts.

This world has so much beauty and I believe in leaning into it to and following our heart to find the most fulfillment for ourselves. Learning to be comfortable in myself and understanding what gifts I have been bestowed upon me is a superpower of its own. What drives you? What do you wake up to and wish you could do or put off until there is more time??

Here I will be sharing with you a teaspoon zest of my home and what things I am currently working on and playing with. It’s a place to spark appreciation, inspiration and lots of light bulb moments. My heart flutters with excitement for all possibilities to come.
